Bitumen 50/70

Bitumen 50/70 is a type of petroleum derivative used as an asphalt binder. The "50/70" classification indicates the penetration grade of the bitumen. The penetration grade measures the hardness or softness of the bitumen, and in this case, it signifies a value between 50-70. This means the bitumen is of medium hardness and is commonly used in road construction and surfacing.

Applications:

  1. Road Construction and Surfacing:

    • Asphalt Concrete: Used for surfacing roadways.
    • Binder Layer: Acts as a binder between different layers in road construction.
    • Bituminous Macadam: Used in the base layers of roads.
  2. Airport Runways:

    • Used for surfacing runways that require high load-bearing capacity and durability.
  3. Railway Ballast Binder:

    • Used to bind stones together in the railway ballast layer.
  4. Waterproofing:

    • Used for waterproofing in concrete structures.
  5. Roof Coverings:

    • Used in the production of waterproof roof coverings.

Bitumen 50/70 is more durable compared to softer bitumen, which tends to soften in hot climates, and it is less likely to crack in cold climates. Therefore, it can be used in a wide range of temperature conditions.
